Part of the mystery about the construction at the Wal-Mart has been solved. City Manager Craig Honeycutt released the names of four of the 15 planned retail businesses to locate in what is being called Laurinburg Crossing.
The new businesses are Shoe Show, Gamestop, Nails and Sally’s Beauty Supply.
The long retail strip to the left of Wal-Mart is expected to house 11 businesses, while the one to the right will house four retailers. To see some photos of new growth see our Local Industry & Business Page...

“In the 25 years on being on Lauchwood Drive, (Scotland Memorial Hospital) has added many additions... to give the best health care we can provide and are striving to add more,” said Karen Gainey, marketing coordinator for Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Some of those expanded services include a cancer treatment center, an outpatient facility, a women’s center, added onto the Edwin Morgan Center, moving the Urgent Care facility onto the hospital campus, and opening a rehabilitation center.
The emergency room is the newest construction to the hospital. It was a major renovation in which it cost $8.5 million.
“By adding all these facilities and adding on to the hospital’s existing facility, we are trying to cut down on the waiting time and serve the patients faster,” said C.L. Whitmore, former employee at Scotland Memorial.
Since the opening of the cancer center — an affiliate of Duke University medical Center — in 2000, there has been four expansions to the center.

In June of 2003, Laurinburg was awarded the coveted All-America City award given by the Federal Government. All cities from all 50 states were able to enter. Each city was encouraged to tell what was unique, exciting, encouraging and creative about their city. When Laurinburg was named in the final 30 from their written proposal, we were then told to prepare a 10 minute presentation on our city‘s unique qualities. Laurinburg's presentation included about 30 citizens from here, the Highland Dancers, Bagpipers and much more. Great attention was given to our Scottish Heritage and our diversity. But the clincher was the wonderful phrase - Small Town Big Ideas." Congratulations to our town!!!
