The beaches of North and South Carolina are within 2 hours of Laurinburg; and the Outer Banks is about a 4 hour drive.
For Racing enthusiasts, Charlotte (NC) and Darlington Motor Speedways (SC) are about 2 hours away, Rockingham is only about 30-40 minutes away!
For you Baseball fans, Fayetteville (NC), about 45 minutes from here, hosts the Crocks. There is also a semi-pro hockey team there, The Force. And speaking of hockey, Raleigh (NC) is the home of our brand new hockey team, The Hurricanes. But if your delight is football, there's The Panthers in Charlotte(NC), about 2 hours west of us on Hwy 74. |

| And finally, basketball... Also in Charlotte we have 2 pro teams - The Bobcats and our ladies team, The Sting. And if you can't get enough from the pros, NC has 4 ACC teams all within 2.5 hours of Laurinburg - Duke, Wake Forest, NC State and The University of North Carolina (or Carolina, for short). |

For the tourist in you... The Biltmore House and Grove Park Inn are just 4 hours west of us, in Asheville, near the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway. |

Historic Charleston, South Carolina, is just 3 hours south of us, and of course Hilton Head is just a stone's throw from Charleston.
Raleigh is only about 2 hours north of us with its art, history and natural science museums, the state arboretum, botanical gardens, state fairgrounds, & Research Triangle Park.
Asheboro, about 1.5 hours away, has the state's zoo. And there's another one located in Columbia, SC - about 2 hours away

| Historic Williamsburg, Virginia is about 5 hours away, and you can reach Virginia Beach in about 6 hours. And if you're wanting to see the Nation's Capital, Washington DC is only about 6 hours drive - straight up I-95.
6 hours in the opposite direction is Atlanta, GA, and Six Flags Over Georgia Theme Park, and speaking of theme parks, you can get to DisneyWorld, SeaWorld and CircusWorld in about 9 hours. |

The Storytelling Arts Center of the Southeast (SACS) is a catalyst for community economic development in Scotland County through the preservation and enrichment of the storytelling arts for children and adults of all ages, incorporating education, performances, research, workshops, professional development, writing activities and story arts experiences.
Each year, lovers of wonderful stories, gather on the grounds of the historic John Blue House in Scotland County the last weekend in April, for the Storytelling Festival of Carolina. The festival features fabulous tales of America’s most acclaimed, award-winning storytellers, super-talented regional tellers and competition-winning youthful tellers. A highlight of the festival is the Saturday evening Meet the Teller Gala, which features live jazz, storytelling, wine and finger foods, at the award-winning Cypress Bend Vineyard.
Bold-Faced Liars’ Showdown: If you love to laugh, you will not want to miss the annual Bold-Faced Liars’ Showdown held the fourth Saturday in January. … it is a hoot! Storytellers, 16 years old to 100, who have imaginative tall tales to share, are invited to enter the competition. The chief judge is a national storyteller who also presents an evening storytelling performance. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the Showdown are awarded cash prizes and trophies.

The John Blue House is a restored 1890's Victorian residence. On the grounds of the house are three log cabins dating back 200 years. The buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The John Blue Cotton Festival, an antiques and crafts festival, is held here each October. Located on West Boulevard off Highway 15/401. 277-2585.
The Scotland County Parks and Recreation Department, at the Senior Center on Turnpike Rd., sponsors a wide range of activities throughout the year, including a children's summer program, youth football, baseball and basketball leagues, adult basketball, softball, volleyball and tennis programs, senior citizen activities, Sundays in the Park, Scotland County Amateur Golf 'Tournament, Senior Games, tennis tournaments, and trips. 277-2585.

Shopping might be your bag and at Scotland Crossing something is offered for every pocketbook and taste. Downtown Laurinburg offers quaint small shops. Unlike other small towns, our downtown is booming. Everything from fine jewelry, gifts and clothing are available. |

If fitness is your thing, we have what you want. The Family Fitness Center is our newest facility and offers everything from group classes to individual assistance and free weights. St. Andrews College also has memberships open to the community for all of their gym facilities, including the weight room, pool and racquetball courts. There are aerobics classes offered through other facilities and martial arts. |
Scotland Yard is a playground designed to look like a castle - complete with dragon. It was funded and built by volunteers from all over Scotland County. It used by local children of all ages and the local chapter of JayCees holds it’s annual Haunted Castle here, too! |
If you like to sing, work with young people, or join in bible study groups, then you might enjoy one of our many churches. Most faiths are represented and I'm sure you'll soon find a home church, if you're interested. |
